Where do you draw the line between trying to protect someone, and ruining their relationship?

I was finishing the opening number to a musical I was in. "Anything Goes" was the fall musical last year, and a great success at that. I looked down from the stage to see one my fellow cast member's friend sitting in the front row. The show ended with a standing ovation [of course]. My co-star and I went down to his friend's seat to chat. The most gorgeous guy I've ever seen was standing right in front of me, and I fell speechless.

The three of us, and a few other close friends, went to a party later that night. Our trio went in different directions to other, more close, friends. The night ended and I went home. A few days later I got a message from the guy on Myspace. "Hey, sorry we didn't talk much the other night" was his message. That's when I learned he lived in New York City.

Months went by and we became very, very close, and he became one of my best friends. We helped each other through our various relationship problems. I had my boyfriends, and he had his. It was only natrual that I began to want more than just a friendship with him.

Winter turned to spring, and he met his now current boyfriend. I have honestly decided not to say anything to him about my feelings, for the fear of creating awkward tensions and straining one of the best friendship I've ever had. His new boyfriend is nice and all, and he is EXTREMELY happy with his boy. He's almost too happy, though.

He doesn't see that his new boyfriend isn't exactly the most caring person ever. His boyfriend had even gone as far as threatening me for being "too close" and he "has a huge problem" with me. I've told my friend about it, but he doesn't seem to acknowledge how his boyfriend treats other people, include his best friends.

I just want him to see that he's going to get hurt, and I wish he would just listen to what I'm saying to him. So where do you draw the line between protecting someone you love, and ruining something that makes your friend so very happy?
